About the Park

Sideling Hill Creek State Park (SHCSP) is 865 acres of mountainous forest land. The Potomac River Overlook provides a majestic view of the Potomac River valley and picnic tables to enjoy the wildlife and scenery.

The park provides a haven for 30 species listed as rare in Maryland. These species include butterflies, freshwater mussels, bats, and numerous plants. Sideling Hill Creek is a stocked trout stream that begins in Pennsylvania and runs 21.9 miles to the Potomac River.

The park's wealth of natural and cultural resources, and its geography and physical resources make it an ideal location for a variety of activities and outdoor recreation. Returned to Maryland State Park Service's stewardship in 2021, a master plan aims to minimize alterations to the property, so the appearance of the landscape will change very little when the plan is fully implemented. Maryland State Parks are "Trash Free". Please practice "Leave No Trace" principles and take your trash with you when you leave.
